The 23rd Japanese Public Speaking Contest (Saturday, March 6, 2010)


The Embassy of Japan and the Executive Committee for the 23rd Japanese Public Speaking Contest are pleased to announce that "The 23rd Japanese Public Speaking Contest" will be held as indicated below.

Nihongo wo benkyo suru minasan, why not participate in the contest and show your Japanese proficiency? Winners will be awarded splendid prizes.

The contest is open to the public. Admission is free.

1. Date & Time
Saturday, March 6, 2010
15:00-17:30 Speeches
17:30-17:50 Intermission, Jury deliberation
17:50-18:20 Awards ceremony

2. Place
The city of Den Haag (The details will be anounced on this page.)

3. Theme
"What I am proud of about the Netherlands"

4. Length
5 minutes (A brief Q&A period is scheduled.)

5. Expected number of participants
Approx. 20 (If a larger-than-anticipated number register, some pre-selection may be required.)

6. Qualifications
Participants must
(1) be at least 18 years of age.
(2) hold nationality of the Netherlands or that of another European Union member state and have resided in the Netherlands for a consecutive six-month period preceding the date of the contest.
(3) have never lived in Japan for more than two years.
(4) have never previously held Japanese nationality. Persons with one or more parents holding Japanese nationality are not eligible.
