Greeting from Ambassador Takashi Koezuka

10 November 2010

Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Japan in the Netherlands.

My name is Takashi Koezuka. On 10 November 2010, I presented my letter of credence to Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix and assumed the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Netherlands.

For centuries Japan and the Netherlands have been forging good and close relations in politics, economics, culture and other areas. Even under the current and very difficult global economic circumstances, our two countries have maintained strong ties in these fields. The investments from Japan into the Netherlands have been the largest among the European countries, and the Netherlands has been ranked as the largest European investor in Japan. Recently a number of commemorative events were held in our countries; in 2008 we celebrated the 150th anniversary of our bilateral diplomatic relations and 2009 marked the 400th anniversary of Japanese-Dutch trade relations. The many festive and commemorative events held in these two years have further enhanced the existing friendly relations between our two countries. With your support and participation, I will make every effort to strengthen the ties that our countries have shared for over four centuries.

The Hague in the Netherlands is home to a number of international organisations in the fields of peace, justice and security. In addition to our bilateral relations, the Embassy of Japan is also actively involved with the work of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the Organisation for the Prohibition of the Chemical Weapons (OPCW). I will do my utmost to enhance Japan’s role and further contribute to the international community through the activities of these organisations.

This website is a gateway to a better understanding of Japan. You can find information on Japan’s foreign policy, culture and Japan-Netherlands relations as well as Japan-related events in the Netherlands, visas and scholarships. We value connection and communication with our Dutch readers and welcome your comments.
