100th anniversary of the Japanese Garden of Clingendael

On Thursday 25 April, the cities of The Hague and Wassenaar together with the Embassy of Japan, hosted the opening ceremony of the 100th anniversary of the Japanese Garden in Clingendael. In attendance were Ambassador and Mrs. Nagamine who, after strolling through the garden, took their seats at the tea house where a performance of the famous aria ´Un bel di vedremo´ from Madame Butterfly was given by a Dutch soprano singer.  The vibrant voice of the very talented young soprano echoed throughout the garden.

On Saturday 27 April, the Japanese garden was open to the public. On this occasion, a Japan Festival was held on the grounds of the Clingendael estate showcasing Japanese culture. Crowds flocked to the Clingendael grounds to enjoy the scenery and the many stands featuring Bonsai (miniature trees) kendō (Japanese fencing), Ikebana, sushi, and arts and crafts.
