On November 15, the festive closing ceremony of the 100th anniversary year of the Japanese Garden took place at the Clingendael estate which is located in the municipality of Wassenaar, but is being maintained by in the municipality of The Hague.
Mr. Kikuta, at the time the chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Japan, Judge Owada of the International Court of Justice, Mr. De Lange Alderman of the City of Wassenaar and Mrs. Van Engelshoven Alderman of the City of The Hague planted a Japanese tree named ‘snowbell tree’ (styrax japonica) and unveiled a commemorative plaque together. After a walk through the Japanese garden in the trees with red leaves, they enjoyed a musical performance of shakuhachi and koto during the reception.
