Japanese Sunday at the Japanese Garden in Den Helder (21 June 2015) |
On 21 June, the Oranjerie hosted the annual Japanese Sunday at the Japanese Garden in Den Helder. On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Japanese Garden and in the presence of Deputy-Mayor Pastoor, Ambassador Tsuji revealed a tile tableau that artistically showed the name of the garden 'meeting of the streams'. The Ambassador, together with flower bulb grower Mr. Langelaan also officially opened the lily show that is held at the Oranjerie simultaneously. The gardens were extensively decorated with beautiful lilies' arrangements, flowers that find their origin in Japan. In the adjacent greenhouse, bonsai, ikebana, kimono, origami and paintings were on display, and Japanese food such as sushi and yakisoba was also offered. Visitors could have their portrait drawn by a Japanese manga artist or have their name written in Japanese calligraphy letters. Pictures of children in Rikuzentakata admiring Dutch tulips donated in 2012 were displayed.
