Leiden Hosts 6th Annual Japan Market

Each year the SieboldHuis organizes a Japan Market to commemorate the visit on 25 May 2000 to Leiden by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan. The Director of the SieboldHuis, Kris Schiermeier opened the market in the presence of the Ambassador of Japan to the Netherlands, Yasumasa Nagamine and his wife.

Over 8400 people came to Leiden on Sunday 19 May to get a taste of Japanese culture at the 6th Annual Japan Market.  From the Sieboldhuis to the Hortus Botanicus, over 40 market stalls lined the Rapenburg offering a wide variety of cultural and culinary wares.

Colourful cosplayers entertained the crowds.  Karate, ninjutsu, kendo, aikido and judo demonstrations were also given in the Museum of Antiquities.
