12 August 2014
On 8 August, the Friends of Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Japan co-hosted a Summer Market in Emmeloord – about 140 kilometer northeast of The Hague. There were performances of Japanese drums, tea ceremonies, calligraphy and karate demonstrations, but also introductions to origami, bonsai and Japanese food.
Every year, there is an exchange between secondary school students from Emmeloord and Mizumaki, Fukuoka city. This year, ten secondary school students from Mizumaki were in Emmeloord for a homestay and they livened up the festival with a Bon Festival dance.
