On 24 August, the Final of the 14th Softball World Championship was held in Haarlem. Following the ceremonial first pitch by Ambassador Tsuji, Japan won the gold medal game against the USA with 4-1. Japan had already won the championship for two consecutive years, and has now become the champion for the third time.
The stadium was almost full and after the game, the players of Japan, the USA and Australia jointly expressed their strong hope that Softball will again be included at the Olympic Games that will be hosted in Tokyo 2020.
