Statement by Ambassador Tsuji at 12th session of the ASP of the ICC (General Debate) (21 November, 2013) |
1. From 20 to 28 November, the twelfth session of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) took place at the World Forum Convention Center in The Hague. Ambassador Tsuji made the statement on behalf of Japan at the session of “General Debate”. 2. In that statement, Ambassador Tsuji pointed out the importance of putting an end to the most serious crimes which are of concern to the international community, achieving greater universality of the ICC, and strengthening the rule of law for achieving justice through its support to the ICC. He also attached importance to assistance for victims and their families and commended the work of the Trust Fund for Victims at the ICC. Furthermore, Ambassador Tsuji pointed out that the ICC should address new challenges, including concerns raised by the African Union with a long term vision of what the ICC should look like in 20 years or even 50 years.
