Fifth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD V) (1-3 June)

The Fifth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD V) was held in Yokohama, Japan, from the 1st to the 3rd of June 2013. During the conference, attended by approximately 4,500 participants including 39 heads of state and government leaders, lively discussions were held on the future of the African development, featuring the basic message of “Hand in Hand with a More Dynamic Africa”.

In his address to the conference, Prime Minister Abe announced a package of Japan’s assistance to Africa including support of 3.2 trillion yen through public and private sectors.
The conference concluded by issuing the “Yokohama Declaration 2013” on the future of African development, and “Yokohama Action Plan 2013-2017” which is the road map of the TICAD process in the coming five years.
