At the invitation of the Government of the Netherlands to the investiture of the new Dutch King, Their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Japan visited the Netherlands from 28 April until 2 May. On 30 April, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess attended the inauguration of the new King Willem-Alexander and the reception which followed.
The Crown Prince also attended a dinner hosted by Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix on 29 April and events on the water at the bay ‘het IJ’ on 30 April. The following day, the Crown Prince attended the breakfast meeting hosted by Their Majesties the new King and Queen.

In addition to the above, on 1 May the Crown Prince received several representatives of the Japanese community in the Netherlands, and on 2 May he paid a visit to the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.

To the great delight of all, this visit by Their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess to the Netherlands and their presence at the investiture of the new King, further strengthened the friendly relations between Japan and the Netherlands.
