On 13 October 2015, the Conferment Ceremony of The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon upon Prof. Harmen Beukers, Scaliger Professor Special Collections at the Leiden University library, was held at the Residence of Ambassador Tsuji.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Tsuji delivered a congratulatory address and conferred the decoration upon Prof. Beukers after presenting the Patent of Decoration.

Close friends of Prof. Beukers and persons from Japanese-Dutch academic and cultural field attended, and they celebrated Prof. Beukers’ conferment.

On April 29 2015, the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2015 Spring Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals

Among them, Prof. Harmen Beukers, Scaliger Professor Special Collections at the Leiden University library (former Professor of History of Medicine at Leiden University, former President of the Netherlands Association of Japanese Studies), received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, in recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion of academic exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and the Netherlands.
