This year is the 150th anniversary of the signing of a treaty of Amity and Commerce between Japan and the Netherlands in 1858. In commemoration of 150 years of bilateral diplomatic relations and the 400th anniversary of Japanese-Dutch Trade Relations in 2009, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) is sending three training vessels: the ‘Kashima’, the ‘Asagiri’ and the ‘Umigiri’ with a crew of 720, including 180 training officers on a good-will visit to Amsterdam from 16 to 20 July. While in the Netherlands, the commanders and crew will take advantage of this opportunity to reaffirm our relationship by visiting significant places to our two countries. The Japanese Fleet will arrive in Amsterdam after visiting Rouen, France and will sail to Portsmouth in the United Kingdom after having visited the Netherlands. Events 16 July 18 July 19 July
