On the 5th of August ten junior high school students from Mizumaki visited the city hall of the municipality Noordoostpolder. These junior high school students are part of an exchange project during which they will stay with a Dutch host family for ten days.
At the city hall, Mayor Van der Werff and Mr. Emmink of the Foundation Friends of Japan welcomed the students. Afterwards at the theater in Noordoostpolder the students sang a song and performed a dance called “Mizumaki-ondo” they had prepared for the occasion. Members of the Yamato Taiko School were also present for a festive “wa-daiko” drumming performance.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the student exchanges between Noordoostpolder and Mizumaki. Coinciding with this milestone the Foundation Friends of Japan received the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation on 13 July for its contribution to the mutual understanding between the Netherlands and Japan through organizing student exchanges between Noordoostpolder and Mizumaki.
