Vacancy Announcement for an Assistant in the Legal Section

The Embassy of Japan in the Netherlands announces a vacancy for an Assistant in the Legal Section. The Assistant supports the work of the Legal Section, which handles Japan’s engagement with international courts/tribunals and other legal institutions based in The Hague.  

 

  1. Job duties and responsibilities 

Under the supervision of diplomatic members of the Embassy, the Assistant will be performing the following duties:  

  1. Providing summaries of open source information (press releases, media reports, journal articles, court records) about the Hague-based legal institutions and relevant legal matters;  

  1. Preparing reports or summaries of discussion of meetings and court proceedings attended;  

  1. Conducting research and analysis of Dutch/European legal affairs;  

  1. Corresponding with the Dutch Government, the courts and other relevant institutions;  

  1. Preparing for events organized by the Embassy;  

  1. Secretarial work; and  

  1. Other work upon request 

 

  1. Requirements: 

  1. Basic knowledge of international law and Dutch/European legal affairs  

  1. Fluent in both Dutch and English 

  1. A strong sense of responsibility and ability to work in the team 

  1. Working permit issued by the Dutch authorities (for non-Dutch nationals only) 

  1. Good health condition. 

 

  1. Expected Date of Commencement: 1 November 2023

Alternatively, the documents can be sent via email to legal@hg.mofa.go.jp by the above date. The total size of attachments must not exceed 5MB. 

  • A curriculum vitae (in English) with a recent photograph taken within 6 months;  

  • A letter of recommendation; and 

  • Copies of all relevant educational certificates (if written in Dutch, translation in English must be attached) 

 

Short-listed applicants by a preliminary screening will be contacted for an interview. The details of the employment conditions will be provided at the interview.
