The Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention held its Twenty- Second Session from Monday, 27 November to Friday, 1 December 2017 at The Hague, the Netherlands. Of the 192 States Parties, 136 countries, including Japan, participated in the Session. In this Session, the progress in the destruction of remaining stockpiles of chemical weapons was reported, and H.E.Mr Fernando Arias, Ambassador of Spain, was appointed as the Director-General of the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for a term of office beginning in July 2018, during this session, the Programme and Budget of the OPCW for 2018 was adopted as well. Ambassador Hiroshi Inomata, Permanent Representative of Japan to the OPCW, made a statement during the General debate.

Japan displayed panels and explained the destruction project of Chemical Weapons abandoned by Japan in the People’s Republic of China throughout the session. An event was held on the second day of the session for introducing the display to the delegates.
