Report: Washoku (Japanese cuisine) Experience (February 25, 2019)
February 28, 2019
On February 25 an event to promote Japanese cuisine among chefs and professionals from the food industry was held at food wholesaler HANOS Den Haag - Delft.
There were lectures and demonstrations of Japanese cuisine (Washoku), Japanese vegetables and ingredients by Mr. Oshima, Head of JRO (Organization to Promote Japanese Restaurants Abroad) Amsterdam Branch and Mr. Tomikawa, Executive Chef of the Japanese Restaurant at Hotel Okura Amsterdam. Next was a presentation of one of the Netherlands’ top chefs, Mr. Jonathan Zandbergen, and the house chefs of HANOS, followed by a presentation on sake (Japanese rice wine). In addition, there were several booths of companies involved with Japanese food-related products, a few stands offering a sake tasting and a booth where people could try to grate fresh wasabi with an explanation by a wasabi farmer.
The event was a great opportunity to increase the interest in Japanese cuisine among food professionals in the Netherlands.
