On June 9, the 12th edition of the Japan Market was held at and around the Japan Museum SieboldHuis in Leiden.

At the opening ceremony, Minister Kijima and the Alderman for Culture of the Municipality of Leiden, Ms. Van Delft gave a speech and officially opened the event together with the Director of the SieboldHuis Ms. Schiermeier, who was also the master of ceremonies.

Thanks to beautiful weather and the event taking place during the Pentecost holiday, a lot of people found their way to the Japan Market. There were many things the visitors could enjoy, from activities such as Japanese sake tastings and lectures, to demonstrations, a food court and booths introducing Japanese culture.

The Japanese embassy was also present and offered an introduction to the various cultural services that our embassy provides, as well as various information pamphlets. We also made an origami corner and many visitors tried their hand at this Japanese art of folding paper.

Moreover, the charity stand by the Association of People from Fukushima Prefecture in the Netherlands received many visitors that endorsed their charity cause. The stand offered peach juice and snacks produced in Fukushima Prefecture to show everyone that food from Fukushima is safe and delicious.
