Ambassador Horinouchi’s Message on the occasion of the Emperor’s Birthday (February 23, 2021)

2021/2/23
Today, I would like to say a few words to celebrate Japan’s national day with you.
I am very happy to be able to celebrate the 61st birthday of His Majesty the Emperor with you today on February the 23rd.

Since last year, many countries are experiencing great difficulties due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus and Japan and the Netherlands as well continue to fight the virus. I hope from the bottom of my heart that everyone can lead unrestricted lives as soon as possible.

However, even under these circumstances Japan and the Netherlands have steadily continued to develop their relationship in terms of the close exchanges between the Imperial House and the Royal Family, as well as political, economic and cultural exchanges, based upon our friendly relations spanning more than 400 years. The other day, His Majesty the Emperor along with His Majesty the King of the Netherlands attended a meeting online related to the United Nations Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation. In December last year a talk was held between the leaders of Japan and the Netherlands.

On this wonderful day, I would like to wish for the health of Their Imperial Majesties and Royal Majesties, the good health of everyone and for the further development of the friendly relations between Japan and the Netherlands.
