Ambassador Minami’s visit to Fukushima City and Koriyama City (March 25, 2024)

On March 25, Ambassador Minami visited Fukushima City and Koriyama City in Fukushima Prefecture. In Fukushima City, he met the Governor of Fukushima Prefecture (Mr. UCHIBORI Masao), and discussed the further strengthening of the relations between Fukushima and the Netherlands, as well as future exchanges in the field of art. Ambassador Minami also visited Chairman of the Fukushima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Mr. WATANABE Hiromi).
In addition, Ambassador Minami discussed with the Mayor of Koriyama (Mr. SHINAGAWA Masato) about organizing events related Cornelis Johannes Van Doorn(※).
(※)In Koriyama City, the ‘Asaka Sosui’, which draws water from Lake Inawashiro, was opened in the Meiji era and the Dutchman Cornelis Johannes van Doorn, contributed greatly to the success of this project. Van Doorn’s grave, erected by Koriyama City, is in the De Nieuwe Ooster cemetery in Amsterdam.
