Reception for the Celebration of the Emperor’s Birthday (February 20, 2025)

On Thursday, 20 February, a reception was held at the Ambassador's official residence to celebrate the Emperor's Birthday with many guests.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Minami stated that this year marks the 25th anniversary of exchange between the Netherlands and Japan and that Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai will begin on 13 April. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to develop further this year.
Also, Mr. Wouter Jurgens, Director for Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs proposed a toast.
The guests enjoyed colorful and creative Japanese cuisine prepared by Mr. Sotozono, the official chef of the Ambassador's residence, featuring fresh scallops and fish from Fukushima Prefecture. A sushi corner was arranged by Hokkai Suisan, and a Japanese sake corner showcased various sakes from Saga Prefecture, served in Arita porcelain sake cups. According to many guests, both the presentation and the flavors were exceptional.
Altogether, it was a wonderful opportunity for guests to experience authentic Japanese food culture, with many commenting that the food was exquisite.
