2026/3/12
On March 10, a reception for former Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship students and former JET Programme participants was held at the Ambassador’s Residence. The event was attended by many guests, including former MEXT scholarship students and JET Programme participants, as well as representatives from the governments, universities, companies, and media of both Japan and the Netherlands.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador MICHII expressed his appreciation for the contributions made by former MEXT scholarship students and former JET Programme participants, who are active in a wide range of fields including academia, the arts, business, and innovation. He noted that their activities have broadened and deepened exchanges between Japan and the Netherlands and expressed his expectation for the further development of bilateral relations.
This was followed by remarks from representatives of former MEXT scholarship students and former JET Programme participants. They noted that while advances in the internet and other technologies have made it far easier than in the past to learn about Japan, the depth of experience gained through studying in Japan or participating in the JET Programme is irreplaceable. They also remarked that in today’s rapidly changing international environment, the importance of personal connections is being increasingly recognized, and expressed their intention to continue serving as bridges between Japan and the Netherlands by drawing on their experiences.
During the event, lively networking took place, and participants further expanded their professional and personal connections. The Embassy of Japan in the Netherlands will continue to work together with former MEXT scholarship students and JET Programme participants to promote exchanges between Japan and the Netherlands.
