113th Session of the Executive Council (EC) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)

The 113th Session of the Executive Council (EC) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was held from 6 to 9 October 2026, where H.E. Ambassador MICHII represented Japan.
On 7 October during the session, Japan hosted a side event entitled “Japan’s Approach to Abandoned Chemical Weapons (ACW) destruction ~ EC Visit and features of related facilities ~.” Approximately 70 participants, including H.E. Ambassador Sabrina Dallafior, Director-General of the OPCW, H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Basri, Chairperson of the EC, ambassadors, and members of the States Parties, attended the event. Participants listened attentively to presentations on Japan’s ACW projects.
The side event provided an opportunity to share with the international community Japan’s activities and future ACW plans and related projects, thereby promoting greater understanding of these efforts.
Japan remains committed to fulfilling its obligations as a State Party to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and to continuing its active cooperation with the OPCW towards the realization of a world free of chemical weapons.
