The JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme enables local authorities of Japan to employ foreign youth for the purpose of improving foreign language education and promoting international exchange at the community level.

The 2026 JET Programme

We are pleased to announce the application process for the 2026 JET Programme.
 
1. Eligibility (Key requirements)
The applicants must
 1) Be a Dutch national.
 2) Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher by August 2, 2026.
  *For all the eligibility criteria, please refer to the following application guidelines.
 3) Has good command of English (for ALT) 
 4) Has good command of Japanese; JLTP N1/N2 level (for CIR)
 
2. Period of Participation 
August 3, 2026 to August 2, 2027 (In principle) 
*It may be possible for the participants to renew the period of participation for an additional year. Regarding the renewal of participation, please refer to the application guidelines.
 
3. Remuneration
Approximately ¥4,020,000 / year (for the first year)
*The remuneration will rise if the participation is renewed. For more details, please refer to the application guidelines. 
 
4. Available Positions for 2026
Assistant Language Teachers (ALT)
 1) Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture 
    - Assistance in English class and other related activities taught in elementary and junior high schools in Fukuyama City.
    - Fukuyama City has a school that has adopted the IENA PLAN. 
 
Coordinators for International Relations (CIR)
 1) Saga Prefecture 
    - Assistance in international exchange affairs (e.g., interpretation, translation, advising and participating in international exchange projects, coordinating Saga Prefecture JET conference, etc.).
 
 2) Hirado City
    - Assistance in international exchange affairs (e.g., implementing exchange projects between Hirado City and Noordwijk City, giving a lecture in cultural courses, interpretation, etc.).
 
5. Application Submission
 1) Be sure that you have all the required documents. 
  *Regarding the required documents, please refer to the application guidelines. 
 2) All documents must be converted to PDF format. 
 3) All documents must be submitted by Wednesday, 4 March 2026 via email to info@hg.mofa.go.jp 
      Use subject line: “2026JET/ALT (your name) or “2026JET/CIR (your name)
  *We cannot receive emails larger than 10MB. If the data exceeds this size, please send it in multiple emails. 
 4) Use the 2026 forms. Older forms will not be accepted. 
 5) Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Friday, 13 March Submission of a Criminal Record 
*This is required only for applicants who indicate a criminal history at the time of application.  
Mid-March First stage of screening process (written application)
Friday, 27 March Second stage of screening process (interviews)
(at the Embassy of Japan in the Netherlands)
Late May– Notification of accepted candidate status
Friday, 5 June Submission of a Criminal Record and Certificate of Health. 
June–July Pre-Departure Orientation, preparation, etc.
Sunday, 2 August  Arrival in Japan
